Barcelona has no shortage of yoga studios, and no shortage of DJs. Electronic Yoga sits right where the two meet: a guided yoga practice set to a live, evolving electronic soundtrack. If you have seen our posts and wondered what actually happens in the room, this guide is for you.
What is Electronic Yoga?
Electronic Yoga is a guided yoga session where the music is not a playlist in the background. It is played live by a DJ and shaped around the practice. The teacher leads breath and movement; the music follows, supports and sometimes leads the energy of the group.
The sound moves through ambient textures, downtempo grooves and slow, hypnotic rhythms. It is not a club night and it is not a traditional class. Think of it as a practice where your body, your breath and the music move together. You can read more about the idea behind it on our Electronic Yoga page.
How a session flows
Every session is different, because the music responds to the room. But most follow a natural arc:
- Arrival and breath. We start slowly, with soft ambient sound and simple breathing to help you land and leave the day outside.
- Warming up. Gentle movement wakes up the spine, hips and shoulders while the rhythm starts to appear.
- Flow. The heart of the session. Postures link together with the breath and the beat builds, giving the practice momentum.
- Release. The music opens up and the pace changes, making space for letting go: sometimes stillness, sometimes freer movement.
- Deep rest. We close with a long final relaxation, lying down while the sound slowly dissolves.
Do I need yoga experience?
No. Sessions are designed for mixed levels, and every posture can be simplified. If you have never done yoga, you will still be able to follow the breath and the flow. If you practise regularly, the music gives a familiar sequence a completely new feeling.
What matters is being curious and willing to listen: to the teacher, to the music and to your own body. Rest whenever you need to.
Is it a workout, a meditation or a party?
A bit of each, and none of them completely. Some moments feel active and energising, others are slow and meditative. There is no alcohol and no dancefloor pressure: the focus stays on the practice and on how you feel. The aim is simple: to leave you relaxed and energised at the same time.
Tips for your first session
- Check the event page for timing and what to bring before you come.
- Wear comfortable clothes you can move and stretch in.
- Arrive a little early so you can settle in without rushing.
- Eat lightly in the couple of hours before.
- Let go of doing it right. Follow your breath, take the variations that feel good and enjoy the sound.
Why music makes the difference
Music changes how we move. A steady beat can make a long hold feel easier, and an ambient passage can make stillness feel natural instead of forced. When music and movement are designed together, the practice becomes more immersive and time passes differently. We explore this in more depth in our article on how music changes your yoga practice.
